(Stats are from Maxpreps which is far less than 100% reliable)

#1 – Sherwood:
They are the reigning 5A champions - QB Dusty Crabtree is relatively unproven but that is not so important - They return three RB’s who averaged 10 yards per carry and scored 19 TDs in the shadow of Steven Long – Cristian Morris may be the best runner in 5A - They loose a lot on defense but they also return more than a few studs and they have an undefeated JV crew – Coach Lawrence and that offense is just plain hard to stop - they play it from the time they start playing football in Sherwood – Hard to argue against it so lets go ahead and put the target on the Bowmen! Click here to see video of Sherwood's 39-13 quarterfinal win over a damn good Jefferson team
Last year: 13-0 (12-0 5A) (7-0 NWOC) – 5A Champions defeated Marist 26-23 in OT

#2 – Mountain View
The Hollister to Hollister connection - boy if they out do last year’s 15 TD’s watch out – Jacob Hollister had the highest rating (122) of any QB in 5A last year – Cody Hollister had a whopping 72 catches and 3 INT and 28 tackles on D - Can you believe Joel Skotte had 116 solo tackles last year? Nuff said right? But they also have junior two-way starter John Carroll and some other big contributors on D coming back. I am very tempted to have them at #1 but hey lets make them earn it as they will meet up with the Bowmen very early on. Click here to see the Cougars 25-22 quarterfinal win over Corvallis
Last year: 11-1 (7-1 5A) (2-0 IMC) – Lost in semifinals to Sherwood 22-42

5-10 161lb CB Dimitri Dillard – 49 tackles, 19 assists, 2 sacks
5-11 180lb DL Matt Miller – 34 tackles, 16 assists

#3 – Marist:
Marist at #3 rounds out the crème-de-la-crème of 5A – Outside a short list of dark horses, these three teams will probably dominate the rest – last year I said the Spartans needed to earn their stripes and indeed they did – Hard to imagine them filling the shoes they lost on defense but even if they allow more points in 2011 the O may be even more potent – Kam Smith, a 6’3” junior QB had only a 56 rating at Willamette but he should have little trouble passing to Taylor Walcott, Austin Baird and Josh Paiement – those three WR’s combined for 2517 yards and 47 TDs last season (dude!) - I have Marist and View and Wood all neck and neck and neck the fact that I have Marist at #3 is merely a formality - They open the season against my #4 pick at Corvallis - Here is some video of Marist vs Ashland early 2010
Last year: 12-1 (12-1 5A) (5-0 MWL) – Lost in championship 23-26 to Sherwood in OT

5-11 165lb WR Austin Baird – 55 catches, 980 yards, 17.82 ypc, 20 TD
6-1 175lb WR Josh Paiement – 17 catches, 393 yards, 23.12 ypc, 8 TD
5-10 185lb RB Greg Park – 84 carries, 762 yards, 9.07 ypc, 11 TD
6-1 205lb DL Paxton Miller – 16 tackles, 46 assists, 3.5 sacks, 3 FR
6-0 185lb LB Colton Bowden – 18 tackles, 16 assists

#4 – Corvallis:
The boys in baby blue are the team to beat in the MWC going in to 2011 – They return a very mobile, very athletic QB with Joey Spiegelberg and nearly every key player around him – 6’6” TE Nolan Hansen is hard to defend – Blair Cavanaugh is getting big props at the summer camps - Jago Cox should improve on his 1148 yards and 13 TDs – And they have this guy named Seumalo who plays pretty well both ways. Click here to see 27-10 playoff win over Bend

6-1 227lb DL Jack Challe – 19 tackles, 44 assists, 2 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FR

#5 - Crescent Valley:
They have great team size – Not a lot of seniors but the juniors and a few sophomores will make up for it – They have tremendous depth at QB with Chase Cochran, Tanner Sanders and Tanner Holland mark my words it will be very interesting to see how Coach Sanders uses this triple headed monster – I like how RB Danny Grigsby came on late last year but they also have newcomer Ambrose Soh who sat out last year after transferring from Wilsonville – whoever carries the rock will have some very big holes running behind 6-4 types such as Austin Powell and Bryon Bodon and probably eight or ten more 6’+ 200lb+ bigmen - Also keep an eye out for ATH Jared Baumgartner - See 33-32 playoff win over The Dalles Wahtonka
Last year: 9-3 (9-3 5A) (6-1 MWC) – Lost in semifinals 22-60 to Marist

6-4 240lb junior OL/DL Austin Powell – 7 tackles, 12 assists, 1 sack

6-0 160lb S Cole Reynolds – 16 tackles, 15 assists, 1 sack
6-1 170lb junior ATH Jared Baumgartner

#6 – West Albany:
They will have a very good QB with Branden Meyers who played WR last year - and they have plenty of talent at RB with Ryker Smith, Aaron Potter, Riley Jarrett and sophomore Jacob LaCoste – D will be led by Jake Conser, Leif Miller, Cory James and Hyrum Crook – Bulldogs will be in the fight - Click here to see the Bulldogs fourth win in a row over Corvallis

Bend always has a good program (indeed they put my dawgs out last year), and looking closer at their roster they have a lot of talent returning especially on defense. See their 2OT playin win over mu dogs

#8 – Lebanon:
Lebanon will be good - New coach but they return Ben Duerr at QB and their JV only lost one game, a close one to CV’s JV – Duerr is pretty one-dimensional but he compensates with his running ability - Click here to see playoff win over Rex Putnam
